Building a diverse pipeline for AngelList Venture

AngelList Venture (ALV), an online incubator for job seekers and tech start-ups to accelerate careers and businesses, wanted to rebuild their product suite using a design-centered approach. They hired Great Team Partners to build a calibrated, diverse pipeline of candidates to help ALV round out their team.

We defined an outbound strategy to attract qualified candidates, identified and sourced high-caliber product designers, and introduced candidates who could bring under-represented perspectives to the team.

Results

In just 12 weeks, we identified >600 product designers from underrepresented groups, of which 55% were of interest to pursue. We used a data-driven approach to optimize outbound conversion rates, generating 2x the interest compared to ALV aggregate, and ultimately established a robust candidate pipeline for priority roles.

Funnel achieved:

  • 96% open rate

  • 24% response rate

  • 7% candidates interested

ALV average:

  • 85% open rate

  • 19% response rate

  • 3% candidates interested

In their own words

“Bryce helped us build a strong, diverse pipeline. She leveraged automation and tooling to create an efficient and asynchronous process, and gave me tips to improve in my role as the hiring manager. She also tracked success metrics on outbound messages, and iterated on our efforts—which resulted in improving our conversion to interested candidates by >2x. In true Bryce fashion, she over-delivered on what was asked of her.”
